In the summer of 2016, I joined the Agricultural Nutrient Management Program (ANMP) as a Nutrient Management Specialist. I received my B.S. from Juniata College and my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Water Resources Science at the University of Minnesota. I have been interested in nutrient management since I was an undergraduate student studying water quality issues in an agricultural area in central Pennsylvania. At the University of Minnesota, I studied the efficacy of polymer-coated ureas for my Master’s research and cover crops to reduce excess nitrogen in the soil for my doctoral research. Before coming to ANMP, I taught environmental science full time as an assistant professor at the Community College of Baltimore County.

Currently, as part of my role in ANMP, I am responsible for:

  • preparing and delivering educational opportunities for certified nutrient management consultants and certified farmers statewide, in cooperation with the Maryland Department of Agriculture
  • reviewing and evaluating nutrient management plans written by new advisors
  • developing documentation and providing technical support for QGIS, RUSLE2, NuMan Pro 4.2, and other nutrient management software.
